I cried this morning and am very sad to hear of Jack Layton's passing. I remember voting for him as a Toronto city councilor many year ago and my respect for him continued throughout his career. He fought for the homeless, the environment, gay rights, and for all people without a voice. His passion and fighting spirit are inspirations to us all. My condolences to his family. We have all lost a great man.
In his final days, Layton wrote a letter which aimed to inspire us all (and I believe it has). His moving and inspiring last words:
My friends, love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic. And we’ll change the world.
All my very best,
Jack Layton
Rest in peace Jack Layton, I'm wearing orange in your honour today.
