Never has FML felt more apt - A fiend with magical bunny-like powers
Never has FML felt more apt
This past week and a few days has been... not fun. A good reflection of my state of mind is the fic I posted, But One Day We'll Float - it's the saddest fic I've probably ever written. I had to do one of those tasks that are the least pleasant things about being a manager and are never easy. So that's been hard.

And with the G20 happening in my city, the atmosphere isn't helping. Cops everywhere, huge fences "protecting" the summit area, trees removed, helicopters circling, the university closed, etc etc. So that has us all on edge. In the past few weeks, I've almost missed yoga because of a bomb threat, there were shots fired near my house (in a normally very boring neighbourhood) and the sirens and helicopters are omnipresent.

And then today we had an earthquake!! Okay, so fortunately this was not serious and, as far as I know, no one hurt. It was a 5.5, I believe. I work in the downtown of Toronto, so we all thought initially that it might be because of an explosion at the G20 or something. Probably a sign of how few earthquakes we get here is that I was the only one who went to a doorway. Our building really shook - likely a result of shoddy construction and being on the second floor. It was definitely unsettling and kinda scary; although there are fault lines nearby (in the Ottawa area which is where the epicenter was) we get earthquakes rarely so we're not used to it.

My girlfriend arrives here for a visit on Monday (thankfully just after the G20 ends - I expect things to get crazier come the weekend), so at least things are looking up! Even though I'm still kinda "ahhh, I hate everything" I'm going to do the TV meme....

Day 18 - Favorite title sequence

Aha, finally an opportunity to admit my LOVE of title sequences. I always watch title sequences for shows, never fast forward through them. There's lots that I love and think fit the show, such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Gilmore Girls, Parenthood, Arrested Development and Modern Family. Those are just examples off the top of my head! I feel that for a title sequence to work it must have an appropriate-to-the-show song/music choice and appropriate-to-the-show imagery that come together perfect. So I feel that Everwood's title sequence always come across as too schmultzy because of the clips from the show turning into drawings combined with the cheesy music doesn't give a sense of how well the show explored complicated issues and relationship. Of course, the issue with title sequences can be simple and be something like Life Unexpected which just has a song that totally doesn't work, too indie/spoken wordy from the '90s feel, not melodic enough. I don't mind things like the creepy music and the image of the word "Lost" for Lost, that worked for the show; although I still prefer a meaty title sequence. So my choice...

True Blood

I possibly love the title sequence for this show so much that it's kept me watching the show. Okay, I admit it, the title sequence is my favourite part of the show! The song choice, "Bad Things"," is perfect, and the images are perfect (a fantastic mix of Southern stereotypes, contradictions, quirks and with just the right amount of violent/blood imagery). Together the song and images combine to create the atmosphere of the show and communicate exactly what the show is about. Sometimes I think that the credits get the mood better than the episodes do!

I only watch True Blood for the title sequence, too :). I mean, so far. If really paid attention to the show, I'm sure I'd get into it more.

Hee, at least I'm not alone! I must admit that the more I watch the show, the more addictive it is. :)

Heh, I also love the TB title sequence, but not the show so much.

Also, the Gilmore Girls? Hmm, if I could bare to listen to the theme song, I might agree ;-)

hee, awesome! I am not alone in this! It's such a good title sequence!

heee, well I do like the theme song for GG so that helps I'd imagine! I also do think it's perfect for the show. :D

I lived in Ottawa for 3 months ages ago and there was a 5.5 earthquake then. I was on a seventh floor and got shaken awake. It was very scary.

I also love the TB opening credits. Although, if I was doing this meme, I think I would have put the Dexter as my choice, as they're equally as compelling.

I have to say the Dexter credits are excellently done, the shots and the goriness in everyday things works so well.

The way they make Dexter's every movement so sinister is just brilliant. I haven't got bored watching the credits even after 4 seasons.

The orange and the shoelaces are my faves.

Aw yeah, it's definitely a strong enough earthquake to be scary! Ottawa is closer to the fault line so it was probably stronger there for you too.

Ahhhh, I have never actually watched Dexter... because I'm a wimp! I'll have to check out the credits though - I'm sure I could handle them! :D

Well I like True Blood more than its title sequence but I do love the song. It annoyed me at first because it was so long but Bad Things fits perfectly with the tone of the show.

I also loved the AD opener.

I've only seen the first season of True Blood and I hear that it gets a lot better in the second season. I am such a credit addict that I love a good long credit sequence so the song length never bothered me! It really does fit perfectly with the tone of the show!

Isn't the AD one so so fun?!!

I liked series 2, one over-long arc (in my opinion) but more Eric and more one-liners which is good. Series 3 is good so far.

The light tone of the AD credits really suit the show and I like the music. Me and my brother are always quoting bits to each other. Now I feel like a rewatch.

Nice icon btw.

I suspect I will enjoy more Eric and one-liners - sounds good to me!!

Aw yeah, I hear you! I should do a rewatch too sometime.

hee, thanks! I believe it's by earth_vexer. :D

If you need to escape on saturday noonish -- it's the Toronto Serenity screening at the Bloor (miles from G20 crazy). *hugs & scotch*

Oh, that sounds like fun! Although it may thwart my "I'll stay at home, clean my house and avoid people" plan. I'm not saying it's a good plan, but it's a plan! :D
